From 7th Grade AdSense to COVID Hustles

It started in middle school with drag-and-drop sites and a $4 AdSense balance. When COVID hit, I pivoted to Premiere Pro, streaming, and Fiverr gigs. The 'Jugaad' mindset was born here.

The Beginning — Weebly Sites & $4 Dreams

I was in 7th grade. Most kids my age were playing cricket or watching YouTube. I was doing something different — building websites on Weebly. Drag-and-drop, zero coding knowledge, pure curiosity.

I slapped Google AdSense on one of those sites and made $4. Four dollars. To a middle-schooler in India, that felt like hacking the matrix. The realization that you could put something on the internet and money would appear in your account was mind-blowing.

That $4 never got cashed out (minimum payout was $100), but it planted a seed: the internet is a machine, and if you understand how it works, you can make it work for you.

The COVID Pivot — When the World Stopped

2020 hit. Schools shut down. Everyone was stuck at home. But while most people were binge-watching Netflix, I saw an opportunity.

I taught myself Adobe Premiere Pro. Started editing videos. First for fun, then for money. I took gigs on Fiverr — $5 edits, $10 edits, $20 edits. The money wasn't life-changing, but the hustle was.

At the same time, I was streaming PUBG Mobile on YouTube. Not because I thought I'd become a gaming influencer, but because I wanted to understand how content worked. How algorithms worked. How attention worked.

The Fiverr Grind

Fiverr taught me something they don't teach in schools: how to sell before you know how to build. I'd take on editing jobs slightly above my skill level, then learn the technique while working on the project. Deadline-driven learning is the fastest kind.

The gigs scaled — $20 became $50, $50 became $100. But more importantly, I was learning:

  • How to communicate with international clients
  • How to manage deadlines
  • How to deliver quality under pressure
  • How to price your work (and when to raise prices)

The 'Jugaad' Mindset

In Hindi, there's a word — Jugaad (जुगाड़). It roughly translates to "a hack" or "a creative workaround". It's the art of making things work with limited resources.

That's what this period was. No formal training. No expensive tools (cracked Premiere Pro, if we're being honest). No mentor. Just a laptop, an internet connection, and an obsessive need to figure things out.

This mindset — solve the problem with whatever you have — became the foundation of everything I built later. When I'm architecting a complex backend system today, I'm still using the same muscle: figure it out, ship it, iterate.

The Lesson

Looking back, none of these early projects were "successful" in any traditional sense. The AdSense site never made its payout. The Fiverr gigs were pocket money. The YouTube channel never blew up.

But they gave me something more valuable than money: the conviction that I can build things that work on the internet. And that conviction is what separates builders from dreamers.

The journey from $4 AdSense to founding an AI startup wasn't a straight line. It was a series of experiments, failures, and relentless iteration. And it all started with a drag-and-drop website in 7th grade.
